About the Museum
The National Museum of American Jewish History poignantly chronicles the Jewish experience through stories of specific Jewish communities as well as individual American Jews throughout American history. Beginning in the 1600's when the first permanent Jewish settlers came to the New World from Brazil, the museum highlights the diverse backgrounds, expectations, and experiences of Jews who immigrated to this land as well as the generations that followed. The exhibits emphasize the choices that American Jews faced, the challenges they confronted, and the ways in which American Jews played significant roles in shaping our country's cultural, economic, political, scientific, and social existence.
From a Beth Emeth congregant: "I have visited this museum many times as I have family in Philadelphia, and each time I both learn something new about my own history and come away with a renewed sense of deep pride for my American Jewish heritage. Because the museum focusses on the STORY part of hiSTORY, one can easily spend hours reading, listening, or watching videos of beautifully told accounts of individuals describing their American Jewish experience. The National Museum of American Jewish History is perfect for children as young as 9 or 10 years old through to age 120 years young! I hope that you and your family will consider joining Beth Emeth for this special opportunity."
