Honoring Gwen Sloan

In 1987, the New York Giants were the Super Bowl Champs. The Minnesota Twins won the World Series and the Edmonton Oilers clinched the Stanley Cup.  Red M&Ms were brought back after being banned for 11 years. The Grammy for the Song of the Year went to That’s What Friends Are For. And speaking of friends, in 1987, Gwen Sloan began teaching Judaic studies at Congregation Beth Emeth.

18 is a very special number for Jewish people. It means Chai (life) and Double Chai (36) becomes even more special. One can only imagine the numbers and lives of the students that Gwen has nurtured and motivated in her 36 year history with Beth Emeth.

On Saturday, May 20th and Sunday, May 21st, Beth Emeth will honor Gwen for her 36 years of commitment and dedication to our community.  In addition to honoring Gwen during our Shabbat morning service on May 20, we will host a Kiddush luncheon for the community to thank Gwen for her many years of devotion. On Sunday, On Sunday, May 21st, there are plans to honor Gwen (and all the Religious School teachers) at the 11:30 end-year ceremony for students and parents in the sanctuary, and Gwen will stay for the first half-hour of the Summer Kickoff Celebration if you want to express your thoughts. We are confident that you will want to be a part of this special weekend!

As part of the celebration, we are creating a book of thoughts, gratitude, and/or pictures for Gwen. Update: Thank you to all who sent messages and photos for the book by the May 1 deadline; the book is now full.

Please consider making a donation towards the special gift that we plan to present to Gwen. As our gift, we plan to dedicate a significant item in the synagogue in Gwen's name. We know that a ritual item in our sanctuary would not only be an appropriate gift, but will be deeply meaningful to Gwen.

For more information or if you have any questions, please contact Robyn Feuerberg at adminvp@bethemeth.org.

You Can Help Make this a Very Special Celebration of Gwen's 36 Years of Dedication to Beth Emeth!

Thank you to all who contributed to Gwen's memory book of thoughts, gratitude, and pictures, which is now full.

Donate Towards a Special Gift for Gwen

We also need your financial donations so that we can present Gwen with a significant synagogue dedicatory item. We know that a ritual item in our sanctuary would not only be an appropriate gift, but will be deeply meaningful to Gwen. We have several donation/recognition categories from which you may choose. (CBE members, please log into your ShulCloud account if you would like to charge your donation to your account or to pay using your saved payment methods). PLEASE NOTE: donations towards Gwen's gift by the May 1 deadline will be acknowledged in a booklet that is already finalized. We welcome additional donations, which will be acknowledged separately to Gwen.
