Intergenerational Tashlich, Family Service & Picnic

Monday, September 26, 2022 1 Tishrei 5783

4:00 PM - 6:30 PMOutdoors at Beth Emeth

Tashlich, which literally translates to “casting off,” is a ceremony performed on the afternoon of the first day of Rosh Hashanah. During this ceremony, Jews symbolically cast off the sins of the previous year by tossing pebbles, bread crumbs or other items into flowing water. During this ritual, people think of things they’ve done wrong in the past year and then “throw them away,” promising for improvement in the coming year.

Our late afternoon Tashlich, combined with a brief family service and picnic, is a wonderful way for members of our community of ALL AGES to relate to this ritual and to Rosh Hashanah, each in their own way.

4:00 PM, Family/Intergenerational Tashlich with activities for all. No need to bring anything to cast into the water; we'll provide items that respect our environment while taking part in this meaningful action.

5:00 PM, Brief outdoor Family Service; then stay for a picnic with CBE friends if you'd like. Bring your shofar for a community blast! (Toy shofars welcome)

Free event, open to the community. No RSVP required -- just come on down to Congregation Beth Emeth's outdoor space!
