Enjoy a FREE Taste of Yoga once a month at CBE

CBE is hosting a different yoga instructor each month to give you a Taste of Yoga. Every 2nd Thursday, November through May, we'll have a different teacher and an opportunity to sample different teaching styles, focuses and types of yoga. And, it’s FREE,
brought to the CBE community by BEECC PA.

We will meet every 2nd Thursday of the month, from 7:30-9:00 pm in the CBE Flex Space. Descriptions of the sessions are below; please SIGN UP and let us know that you’re coming so instructors can bring enough “props” for us to try (i.e., blocks, bands, etc).

Whether you’re an experienced yogi, or have been wondering what all this contortion is about, join us for an evening that is sure to be relaxing and fun!

• For ADULTS only
• ALL Yoga levels welcome
• Wear comfortable clothes
• Bring a towel or mat and a bottle of water

Come TWIST with us!

If we have enough interest, we may schedule one of these instructors on an ongoing basis.

Questions? Contact Jennifer (Finstein) DeAngelis.

November 12, 2009

November’s class will include basic yoga poses as well as deep relaxation. and is for beginners as well as practiced yoga. November poses will include stretching, balancing and strengthening.

Our instructor for this session is Hari Khalsa. Hari has taught yoga since 1985. She became certified in Kundalini Yoga in 1996 and in Hatha Yoga (Health AdvantageSchool, Herndon) in 2005 afters studying at the school for 4 years. Hari currently teaches at the Vienna Community Center (12 years) and at the Reston Community Center Lake Ann (5 years). She is also a Registered Nurse and Certified Massage Therapist.

December 10, 2009

December’s class will focus on relaxation poses as well as poses to work out the tightness of the day.

Our leader, Kathy Nevins, believes “EVERYONE CAN DO YOGA.” Kathy is finishing up certification at Health Advantage Yoga Center and has been practicing yoga for about 13 years. She teaches alignment-based yoga in the Anusara and Iyengar styles.

January 14, 2010

January’s class will include centering, learning how to breathe properly and a series of poses depending on what the class wants to focus on.

Leader Patt Wattanasupt has been doing yoga for the past 7 years that includes leading a Gentle Yoga class to a group of seniors in their 70s- and 80s. Patt does basic poses that are safe and encourage movement, stretching, and relaxation. Generally, Patt teaches alignment-based yoga focusing on the correct alignment of the body, muscles, and bones – being sure to “respect our bodies and any injuries that we have.” Poses can be modified using props such as blocks, belts, a wall or any support according to each person.

February 11, 2010 February’s class focuses on Vinyasa Yoga, a flow style of yoga where the body moves in synchrony with the breath, helping to draw the attention inward to create a moving meditation. It is a dynamic style of yoga that generates heat to help warm the muscles and prevent injury, while helping release toxins and sweat, building strength and increasing flexibility and bringing a centeredness and sense of calm to the present moment.

Leader Louise Profit says “Vinyasa flow yoga balances the whole body for optimum health…all the major elements are covered: aerobic, strength, flexibility, balance and mind body connection." This class is suitable for every body, every shape and every fitness level. Louise has been leading fitness classes and personal training since 2001 and provides private and group yoga instruction for adults and kids in addition to teaching classes at Beloved Yoga in Reston and Great Falls and at LA Fitness.

March 11, 2010

March's teacher Jennifer Zoerkler will teach a Gentle and Restorative sample class combining breathing techniques, warm-up stretches to gently wake up muscles and joints, a couple of playful poses, followed by a sequence of restorative and relaxing poses, bringing calmness to mind and body. This class is suitable for any adult regardless of flexibility level.

Jennifer began studying Iyengar style yoga at the Health Advantage Yoga Center (HAYC) with Betsy Downing in the early '90's to help manage migraine headaches. Her practice has been growing since 2005 while studying at The Yoga Connection (TYC) in Manassas. She will complete her teacher certification through HAYC in February, 2010 and will focus on yoga as therapy to guide students with special medical and physical needs. Jennifer currently teaches a Gentle/Restorative class at TYC. Yoga is a great de-stressor for today's world and a perfect therapy to calm the mind and the body, for every body!
