Why Volunteer?

"One of our Board members recently said to me that she volunteers because it makes HER feel good inside.   I hope that many of you will seek fulfillment in this New Year by offering yourselves to your Beth Emeth family."

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR INVOLVEMENT

Caring Committee

This is a new committee that will address congregants’ needs during difficult times.  It will be a wonderful way for you to stay connected to CBE while reaching out to our members that require assistance.  Opportunities include:

  • driving members to medical appointments or services

  • preparing and/or delivering meals

  • helping with shiva arrangements

  • babysitting

  • making phone calls

  • Home visits to housebound members

I'd like to volunteer with the Caring Committee.

My specific interest and questions are about (optional, 100 characters max):

Social Action

Energy is focused on helping those in need within our community but help is also given nationally and internationally.  Are you handy with a hammer, proficient with a paintbrush, or skillful with a screwdriver?  Then Sukkot in April needs you!  On the last Sunday of April, Yachad organizes hundreds of Jewish volunteers from synagogues and Jewish organizations to renovate the homes of area residents who are too elderly, disabled or poor to keep up with the needed repairs themselves.  This will be Beth Emeth’s third year participating in this program.  Help make it more successful than ever.

Our social action committee has other opportunities for you to make a difference including food drives and school supply collections.  There will always be something for you to do!

I'd like to volunteer to help with Social Action projects.

My specific interest and questions are about (optional, 100 characters max):

Communications

If you have an artistic flair or a way with words your talents can be used in various ways.  From creating posters to designing brochures, from writing press releases to maintaining areas of our website, we have something for you.

I'd like to volunteer to help with Communications projects.

My specific interest and questions are about (optional, 100 characters max):

Ritual Helpers

The opportunities available during services are too numerous to list but here are a few highlights.  Are you outgoing, friendly, helpful?  Being a Shabbat Ambassador may be the job for you.  We like to have a friendly face in our lobby during services to greet and assist others, especially visitors who might be unfamiliar with our customs, or confused about where to go or what to do.  For our introverts, why not be a food service volunteer?  This involves setting up and cleaning up the food served following services.  If your interests are more ritual in nature, you could serve as a super gabbai, a gabbai, a Torah reader or a hagbah.  Don’t worry if you don’t feel prepared to do these jobs.  Training is offered on a regular basis.

I'd like to volunteer to help with services or other ritual roles.

My specific interest and questions are about (optional, 100 characters max):

Office Helpers

Opportunities are sometimes available throughout our building for people to stuff or label envelopes, answer phones, track information, etc.  Many of these opportunities are available during the day so if you have a few spare hours once in a while offer to lend a hand.

I'd like to volunteer to help in the office.

My specific interest and questions are about (optional, 100 characters max):

Fundraising

Did you have the most successful lemonade stand on the block when you were a child?  Or maybe you sold the most Girl Scout cookies in your troop.  Better yet, did you run a profitable silent auction or carnival at your children’s school?  Then the fundraising committee needs you.  We already have volunteers who are planning events but we could use more.  All ideas are welcome.  We especially need someone to serve on the board as fundraising chair.  This person is responsible for overseeing our fundraising efforts.

I'd like to volunteer to help with Fundraising.

My specific interest and questions are about (optional, 100 characters max):

Schools

The range of possibilities is great.  Here are just a few examples:

  • work as a substitute teacher
  • assist during family learning programs and other special programs
  • help prepare for a special event like the Tu b’Shevat seders
  • provide assistance in the school office
  • share a special talent with the students

I'd like to volunteer to help in the Schools.
