At CBE, We Welcome
Interfaith Families
Beth Emeth
welcomes Interfaith families and takes a non-coercive approach. There is no attempt to try to
convert anyone.
Our
Rabbi, Steven Glazer, is an enthusiastic
supporter and advisor to interfaith families. The synagogue encourages
active participation by all family members.
Two new programs have been introduced by the
Jewish Outreach Institute
in late 2008:
The
Mothers' Circle, for women of other religious backgrounds who are raising
Jewish children This program meets in Northern Virginia, and is a free educational program empowering non-Jewish mothers
to create Jewish homes.
Mothers in all family constellations are
welcome and participants do not have to be affiliated with a Jewish
institution or have any prior knowledge.
The interactive curriculum
for the sessions explores Jewish holidays, practices, rituals, and
ethics while providing resources and tools for enriching Jewish
family life at home. Facilitated by our own Michelle Cades, MA, LCSW.
(more info here).
The
Grandparents' Circle helps grandparents present their Jewish heritage to
their grandchildren in intermarried households.
This program does not yet have a
local presence, but has established a national email list which
serves as a safe
space where grandparents can ask whatever questions are on their mind and
discuss the joys and challenges that they are experiencing as they share their
Jewish identity and heritage with their grandchildren.
You can join the list by
