About Beth Emeth

Who we are

We’re Family!  Beth Emeth is a welcoming and dynamic Conservative Jewish congregation serving Western Fairfax and Eastern Loudoun counties in Northern Virginia.  Within our synagogue, which is affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, we have created a community that is inclusive, warm and open, and whose members feel part of an extended family.  As our Rabbi Steve explained in a recent sermon (excerpted),

"Jews at worship are, among other things, a family engaged in a family reunion.  So, why do we kiss at the end of the service, at the end of a family reunion? In that kiss we make sure that we are not alone. In that kiss each one of us knows that we are not the last Jew. And in the warmth of touching one another, we know that “Am Yisrael Chai, the family of Israel lives.” We are encouraged and we separate, looking forward to another family reunion.

We also kiss because of the joy, the reassurance and the exultation we feel when we know that even the wrenching away of our homeland and the burning of G-d’s temple in ancient times could not separate us from Him. We kiss at all reunions because we are assured not only that “the children of Israel live,” but also that our G-d still lives with us.

Here at Congregation Beth Emeth we encourage a sense of ownership and belonging that includes learning, participation and volunteerism.  We gather for worship, and we encourage all members to learn and take part in worship no matter what their level of experience.  We offer lifelong learning and education opportunities at all levels of knowledge from pre-school through religious school, to Bar and Bat Mitzvah training, Hebrew high school and programs for adults.  Our community includes numerous active groups for congregational family members in different stages of life or with varied interests and needs. We encourage the practice of “hands on Judaism” through involvement at the synagogue and in the wider community.
